Unlock Your Learning Potential as an Adult

“It is not that I’m so smart. But I stay with the questions much longer.” – Albert Einstein

Do you have trouble learning new things as an adult?  Are you hesitant to start something new because you’re worried about the outcome?  It doesn’t have to be that way!

When it comes to overcoming learning struggles, one name that comes to mind is brain coach Jim Kwik.  Jim’s difficulties began in kindergarten after a brain injury, earning him the nickname “the boy with the broken brain.”  Reading, memory and learning were extremely difficult for him until he realized in college that he needed to learn how to learn.  For over 30 years, Jim has dedicated himself to teaching his learning methods worldwide.  In his book Limitless (Expanded Edition): Upgrade your Brain, Learn Anything Faster, and Unlock Your Exceptional Life, Jim presents his “Limitless Model” for learning.  This book, along with his other resources on his website, podcast and YouTube channel, provides fantastic tips to unlock the potential of your brain.  Here are some of them:

  • Examine Your Limiting Beliefs: Do you find yourself thinking, “I’m not good at this”, “I’m too old to learn this”, or “I’m not smart enough?”   Challenge these beliefs and adopt new ones such as “I am making progress every day” and “I can take this one step at a time.”
  • Know Your Purpose: Why do you want to learn this? Understanding how it fits into your overall vision for your life can keep you motivated.
  • Optimize Your Energy: Nourish your brain with foods like blueberries, leafy greens, avocados. Regular exercise, stress management, and good sleep hygiene are also crucial.
  • Take Baby Steps: Break your learning goal into mini or micro goals that are manageable. Small, consistent actions add up over time!
  • Make New Habits: Incorporate learning into your daily routine. Can you read a book for 10 minutes while drinking your morning coffee?  How about listening to a podcast on your topic while you’re in the car?
  • Learn How to Learn: Before diving into a new subject you start learning the topic of your choice, consider taking time to improve your learning skills with new study methods, memory tools, focus tactics, and thinking skills. Maybe even try a speed-reading course!

Jim Kwik’s resources help you remove limits and enhance your learning capabilities. I invite you to explore his resources here: https://www.jimkwik.com/
