7 Tips to Becoming More Organized
Mar 13, 2024A messy environment, or even a cluttered mind, can create a feeling of being unorganized and add unnecessary stress to our lives. For those naturally inclined to organization, simply making time for a tidying up session can be the solution. But if organization doesn’t come easily, here are some tips to develop this valuable skill:
- Prioritize: Identify the cluttered space that creates the most stress for you and tackle it first.
- Start Small: Avoid overwhelm by focusing on one small section at a time, like a shelf, drawer, or box.
- Know Your Why: Stay motivated by reminding yourself of the benefits you’ll enjoy once the task is complete.
- Declutter: Sort through everything in that small section and decide what to keep, donate, or throw away.
- Set a Timer: Knowing that this task has a specific end time can help you organize more efficiently. Get started by setting a timer for 15 minutes and work quickly without overthinking each item.
- Make It Sustainable: Establish a manageable organization schedule, whether daily or weekly, to maintain order.
- Learn From Others: Seek inspiration from books like The Life Changing Magic of Tidying Up by Marie Kondo or Outer Order Inner Calm by Gretchen Rubin.
This strategy isn’t limited to physical spaces; it can also be applied to digital files and photos.
When I’m feeling unorganized, I find relief in making lists. By transferring that mental clutter onto paper or a digital spreadsheet, I free up mental space and create a clear plan of action.
